Functional Medicine Detox

This is a comprehensive detoxification program that allows your body to reset & remove harmful toxins.

Hidden toxicities is one of the #1 reasons for people struggling to regain their health.

Unfortunately in today’s world toxins are unavoidable, even if we choose to live a healthy life. So being proactive in supporting the body’s natural detox systems (that can become congested & overloaded!) is key.

Because if the drain is blocked, everything will back up!

If the toxins have no where to go because of liver congestion or constipation they can get reabsorbed back into the body and stored in our adipose tissue (hello weight gain). 

That’s why it can be so effective for helping:

Things you need to know

It includes 2 days of fasting. For some people, particularly those who might be experiencing any adrenal fatigue or 'burn out' symptoms, it is better to do the detox without the fasting days. 

It is not advised for anyone over 70yrs to do the fasting days. You can customise it to suit you and what your body needs right now. I can guide you on that if you need.

Including the initial fasting days will be better for the weight loss benefits. When doing it for the first time you could also aim for one fasting day initially and see how you feel.

Who shouldn’t do the detox?

It is not recommended for anyone who:

  • Is pregnant/ breastfeeding

  • Has liver or kidney disease

  • Has gallbladder issues (however many people without a gallbladder have completed it with great success - you need clearance from your doctor first)

  • Has appendicitis

  • Has an eating disorder

  • Has type 1 diabetes

  • Is under 18 years old.

It is always recommend to check in with your doctor/specialist to ensure it’s safe for you, or if you have any concerns whatsoever.

If on any medications, it is important to check that there are no contraindications with any of the detox ingredients. 

Helpful preparation tips

  1. Start reducing caffeine the week before.

  2. Ensure your bowels are moving at least one per day before starting.

  3. Go food shopping before you start the detox.

  4. Plan ahead and draft a meal plan / menu for the week so you have a list of go-to Detox meals.

  5. If you choose to do the fasting days - Day 2 is the hardest. It’s a lot of mind over matter! But don’t just push through if you are not ok.

  6. Fasting is a form of stress on the body so you want to minimise any other stressor while fasting - the less stress the better!

  7. Don’t plan to start fasting on days you have intense work on, or big projects.

  8. Drinking fresh ginger tea while fasting helps take the edge off the hunger. 

  9. Don’t chug your shakes - take it slow!

  10. When breaking your fast try to have something warm & easy to digest like roast veggies or a vegetable soup (as opposed to lots of raw foods).

  11. Be prepared to roast lots of sweet potato & root veggies so you have them on hand for meals as your carbohydrate (since you can’t have grains). 

  12. Hemp hearts are a great source of protein you can use with lunch. Making homemade hummus or a black bean dip is a great option too.
